Girlfriend (Avril Lavigne)

The Song

"Girlfriend" a song by Canadian singer Avril Lavigne, is the lead single from her third album, The Best Damn Thing (2007).
"Girlfriend" became Lavigne's biggest hit in the United States, where it reached number one on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100. It topped the chart in Australia for 6 weeks, and reached number two in the United Kingdom.
The song involves Lavigne proclaiming a crush on a boy currently with his girlfriend. The Japanese version of this song replaces the word motherfucking with the phrase "one and only" in the line "Hell yeah, I'm the motherfucking Princess".

The video

The music video was directed by The Malloys and filmed at Golf 'n' Stuff in Norwalk, California. It features two girls: one with an innocent persona, glasses and red hair (Lavigne), and one with an evil persona and black hair (also Lavigne) The black-haired rocker fights over the man with the red-haired girl and tries to outdo her repeatedly. She finally hits the girl in the head with a golf ball, causing her to fall into water at the golf course, and then finally wins the youth's affections. Lavigne then takes her boyfriend into a bathroom stall and slightly opens the door after a moment and gives a thumbs up. Lavigne's boyfriend in the video is played by American model Bryan McMullin and dresses similarly to the "rocker" Lavigne in the video. The video features Lavigne's previous guitarist Evan Taubenfeld, and Lavigne's brother Matt on bass.
On July 18th, "Girlfriend" became the most viewed video of all time on YouTube and in August, surpassed 100 million views, the first YouTube video to reach that milestone, overtaking "Evolution of Dance" by Judson Laipply.

The Facts

In March 2008 a violent case that could have ended up in a tragedy took place when a thirteen-year old girl was beaten by three schoolmates in a school in San Isidro. The attackers fractured the girl's nose and caused her to suffer severe wounds on her cranium that left her in a comatose state for several hours.
Apparently Priscila was attacked by her schoolmates due to the fact that the boyfriend of one of her attackers had set his eyes on her.
In August 2008 a fifteen-year old girl disfigured the face of her schoolmate, aged 17, because she didn't want her to be chosen the school queen. This incident happened in the city of Orán in the province of Salta, Argentina.

My Point of View

Unfortunately girl fights are alarmingly increasing. Any excuse is valid to pick up a fight. The fact that those fights can be videoed and then posted on youtube seems to make this type of violent behaviour grow. Eventually those videos are removed but some of them are shown by the local news so that violence is not only confined to youtube.
I guess somebody should do something about this phenomenon which is unfortunately becoming more popular partly thanks to the internet and the media.
